Gators Enjoy Perfect Senior Day
Sunday, April 9, 2017 | Women's Tennis
All three Gator seniors won their respective singles matches.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators presented their three seniors flowers during a prematch ceremony and the trio each gifted singles wins towards the team's 7-0 victory against No. 16 Mississippi State on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
The win was top-ranked Florida's final regular season home match, as the team plays its final two on the road and remains in contention for the Southeastern Conference championship.
Sunday's sweep helped Florida remaining atop the SEC standings, improving to 10-1 in league matches with Georgia and Vanderbilt.
Florida's only SEC loss was to Georgia, which lost to Vanderbilt, which lost to Kentucky. The Gators close their regular season next weekend at No. 11 Kentucky on Friday and at No. 7 Vanderbilt Sunday, before returning to Nashville for the SEC Tournament, April 19-23.
For just the third time this season and the second time in an SEC match, the Gators played out all matches instead of halting those in progress once the dual match winner had been determined. If those matches had been abandoned Sunday, it would have been a disappointment considering the exciting and terrific tennis that was played on the final three singles courts.
With two seniors – Kourtney Keegan and Belinda Woolcock – in the doubles lineup, the Gators began the match winning the doubles point for the 19th time this season and both Keegan and Woolcock were part of tandems that won its respective match.
Junior Josie Kuhlman was the first off the singles court, as she posted her third double-bagel win of the season to give UF a quick 2-0 lead. Kuhlman improved to 13-1 in dual matches, including 8-0 in league action, while winning her team-leading 28th overall singles match.
Junior Anna Danilina polished off Anastasia Rentouli, 6-4, 6-0, and the Gators led 3-0. The victory was Danilina's 25th of the season, as she sports a 7-1 record in SEC play.
Fittingly, a senior provided the clinching victory, as Woolcock downed No. 18 Jasmine Lee, 6-3, 6-1, in 70 minutes.
Because play continued, senior Spencer Liang was able to finish her match, earning a 6-2, 6-4 win for her first victory of the year in SEC play. Liang's been in the lineup several other times, however, rarely was able to finish since the dual match had been determined.
If play had been abandoned, fans would not have been able to witness the phenomenal second-set tiebreak on court two between Gator freshman Ingrid Neel and Bulldog rookie Lisa Marie Rioux. Neel cruised through the first set, before the second featured six breaks of serve, including the final three games where Neel needed to come through to force the tiebreak. The exciting breaker saw Neel fend off five set points before she capitalized on her third match point to take the 6-1, 7-6 (14-12) decision.
Keegan provided the finishing touches on the dual match, as she was the last match off with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 victory, breaking in the final game to secure the straight-set win and the 93rd- singles victory of her career.

"We did a great job in doubles. I thought Josie (Kuhlman) did a great job getting off the court quickly with a win.
"Belinda (Woolcock) is on fire right now. Her opponent – Jasmine Lee – is one of the best players in the SEC. Belinda did a great job. She played really well.
"A lot of the day was watching the three seniors out there battling and getting it done. We were all really excited to see them. Mississippi State wanted to play the match out today and I thought that was good for our three seniors. All three of them were able to have a chance to get it done for us and get a win in their final regular-season home match. All three of them came through and it was good for them."
