Gators to Face Baylor in Big 12/SEC Challenge
Thursday, May 25, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Florida will host Baylor on Jan. 27, 2018, as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Along with the Kentucky-West Virginia matchup, this is one of two games in the Challenge featuring two teams who competed in the second weekend of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
Times and networks for the 10 games will be announced at a later date, but all will be carried on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, and ESPN's College GameDay will orginate from one of the Challenge sites.
The Bears add another prime opponent to the Gators' 2017-18 home schedule, which already includes games vs. Florida State, Kentucky, Georgia and Vanderbilt. The Gators are 3-1 all-time in the annual challenge, including 2-0 under Mike White. Previously under White, the Gators topped ninth-ranked West Virginia in Gainesville in 2016 and blitzed Oklahoma in Norman last season. This will mark only the second all-time meeting between Florida and Baylor, with BU posting a 72-71 neutral-site win on Dec. 30, 1981.
Baylor earned a No. 3 seed in last year's NCAA Tournament and reached the Sweet 16, finishing with a 27-8 record overall after going 12-6 to tie for second place in Big 12 action. The Bears reached No. 1 in the AP poll during a 15-0 start to their season.
