Perez Advances to Round of 32 in NCAA Singles Championship

ATHENS, Ga. – In the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship, No. 8 Alfredo Perez took down Illinois' No. 41 Aron Hiltzik 6-4, 6-1. Perez advances to the Round of 32 of the tournament for the second time in his career, where he will face TCU's No. 20 Rybakov on Thursday (May 25).
The first set of the match remained close until the very end, with both sides holding serve to stay tied until 4-all. Perez went up a break to lead 5-4, then held serve to win the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Perez earned a quick 5-0 lead before Hiltzik broke his five-game streak to bring the score to 5-1. Perez served out the final game to win the second set 6-1.
The doubles competition will begin Thursday morning, where Perez and his partner Johannes Ingildsen will face off against UC Santa Barbara's Freund/Mays.
