Carter's Corner: Time to Vote Tebow
Wednesday, May 31, 2017 | General, Scott Carter
The former Gators quarterback is on the South Atlantic League All-Star Game ballot.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – I'm taking the Cavs over the Warriors in the NBA Finals and the Predators over the Penguins in the Stanley Cup.
Both could easily go the other way based on the matchups.
Here's a prediction that seems like a lock: former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow will be the first Heisman Trophy winner voted in as a starter in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Tebow, in his first full season of professional baseball, is on the ballot for the Southern Division in left field. His competition is Ryan Scott of the Greenville Drive and Jacob Heyward of the Augusta (Ga.) GreenJackets.
You can cast a vote right here.
Tebow, who plays for the Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies in the Mets' organization, is hitting .215 with three home runs and 15 RBIs entering Columbia's home game tonight against Augusta. Beyond the box score, Tebow has been an instant hit with minor league baseball fans.
If you have not been a lifelong Fireflies fan like myself, here is my ballot to perhaps serve as a road map:
Manager: Randy Ingle (Rome Braves) – Ingle has spent his entire career in the minor leagues, primarily in the Braves' farm system. I'm also a lifelong fan of the Braves. Plus, he did this once:
My allegiance to the Fireflies shows the rest of the way:
Pitcher: Matt Blackham (Columbia)
Catcher: Brandon Brosher (Columbia)
First baseman: Dash Winningham (Columbia)
Second baseman: Michael Paez (Columbia)
Third baseman: Jay Jabs (Columbia)
Shortstop: Andres Gimenez (Columbia)
Right field: Gene Cone (Columbia)
Center field: Desmond Lindsay (Columbia)
Left field: Tim Tebow (University of Florida/Columbia)
Utility outfielder: Willie Abreu (Asheville)
Designated hitter: Reed Gamache (Columbia)
Both could easily go the other way based on the matchups.
