Rhamat Alhassan was Team USA's top blocker throughout much of the Pan Am Cup
LIMA, Peru – Rising senior and three-time All-American Rhamat Alhassan helped the USA Volleyball Women's National Team to a gold medal at the Pan American Cup last week.
Alhassan started all four sets and totaled nine points, including a team-high four blocks, in the 3-1 gold medal-winning victory over Dominican Republic Sunday (June 25).
Team USA and Alhassan ran up an undefeated 5-0 record in pool play before sweeping Peru in the semifinals and topping Dominican Republic for the title. One of Alhassan's top performances came in the semifinal sweep of Peru, as she tallied 12 points, which included a team-high five blocks.
Alhassan started nearly every set for Team USA, and led the Americans in blocks for four of their seven Pan Am Cup matches.
Last year's American team, which also featured Alhassan, took bronze at the Pan Am Cup.
Rising redshirt senior Shainah Joseph competed for Team Canada at the Pan Am Cup, helping the Canadians to the consolation semifinals.
Joseph was one of the primary attackers for Team Canada, and her week was highlighted by a 22-point outing in a five-set win over Venezuela. Joseph racked up 18 kills, three service aces and a block in that monstrous performance.
King Begins USA Volleyball Collegiate National Team Play
Last month, rising sophomore Darrielle King earned a spot on USA Volleyball's Collegiate National Team that will compete in Minneapolis this week.
King was one of 36 individuals selected for the program, which devolved into three 12-member teams.
King was assigned to CNT Red. King's team plays pool matches June 27 and June 29 at 5 p.m. Live streams can be found at this link. Both of CNT Red's matches will be played on Court 19.
The event will concluded with a pair of bracket matches Friday (June 30).
According to last month's official announcement, the CNT-Minneapolis squad is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance pipeline, and considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team.
