
Trio of Gators Named to Outland, Nagurski Watch Lists

Martez Ivey, Duke Dawson and Jabari Zuniga Named to National Award Watch Lists

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three Florida Gators – offensive lineman Martez Ivey, defensive back Duke Dawson and defensive end Jabari Zuniga – were named to the 2017 watch lists announced by the Football Writers Association of America on Thursday.
Martez Ivey earned one of the 81 spots on the Outland Trophy watch list, while Duke Dawson and Jabari Zuniga were two of 103 players on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list.
Ivey, a social and behavioral sciences major, was one of three Gators selected to represent Florida at the SEC Media Days on Tuesday and was also chosen as one of Florida's five representatives at the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this past weekend. The Apopka, Fla. native played in all 13 games last season, making 12 starts on the offensive line. He earned Second Team All-SEC accolades by the league's Coaches and the AP, while garnering Third Team All-SEC honors by Athlon sports.
Dawson, a second-team Pro Football Focus All-SEC as a junior, played in 12 games last season played and started seven at nickel corner. The Cross City, Fla. native recorded one interception (returned for a touchdown) in 2016 and a team-high seven pass breakups. Overall, Dawson totaled 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and one forced fumble last fall. The African American studies major enters his senior campaign with 48 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles and two interceptions, which were both returned for touchdowns. He also was chosen to represent the Gators at SEC Media Days on Tuesday, accompanying teammate Ivey.
Zuniga, a social and behavioral sciences major, played in all 13 contests last season, garnering three starts as a redshirt freshman. The Marietta, Ga. native tallied 25 tackles on the year, including 8.5 tackles-for-loss. Zuniga led the Gator squad with five sacks, while also posting 11 quarterback hurries and one forced fumble. For these efforts, Zuniga garnered Coaches' Second Team All-SEC honors.
The Football Writers Association of America presents the Outland Trophy to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman. The Charlotte Touchdown Club and the FWAA present the Bronko Nagurski Trophy annually to the National Defensive Player of the Year.
The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be held on Jan. 10, 2018 in Omaha, Neb. The annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet, presented by ACN, will be held on Mon., Dec. 4 at the Charlotte Convention Center.
