Gators Unveil Full Non-Conference Schedule
Thursday, July 13, 2017 | Men's Basketball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- In what has become a familiar refrain for this announcement, the Florida men's basketball team will once again undertake one of the nation's most challenging non-conference schedules.
The Gators will play up to seven major-conference opponents over the course of the 13-game schedule and as many as five teams that ended last season in the top 25. Unlike last season's nomadic November and December schedule, UF will get eight non-conference home dates in the renovated Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center, including Florida State and Baylor.
"First and foremost, Gator fans deserve to see us play this type of schedule," head coach Mike White said. "It's great preparation for the SEC season, of course, and it gives us an opportunity for the computers to like us. We're all excited to get back to playing a full schedule at Exactech Arena, which our fans and the Rowdy Reptiles help make one of the great environments in college basketball."
Florida will open the season with three straight home dates, starting on Monday, Nov. 13, vs. Gardner-Webb and followed by UNF (Nov. 16) and New Hampshire (Nov. 19). From there, the Gators trek to Portland for the Phil Knight Invitational where they'll meet Stanford on Thanksgiving night, with two additional games on site that weekend.
UF kicks off three games in six days with a Dec. 4 date vs. in-state rival Florida State, followed by Loyola Chicago two days later and capped with a Dec. 9 showdown vs. Cincinnati in Newark, N.J.
The Gators finish the pre-holiday schedule with another flurry of activity, facing Clemson in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla., on Dec. 16 before returning home for games vs. James Madison (Dec. 20) and Incarnate Word (Dec. 22).
UF's SEC schedule will begin during the final week of December, and Florida hosts Baylor in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 27 to wrap the team's non-conference slate.
The Gators will face the University of Tampa in an exhibition game at Exactech Arena on Sunday, Nov. 5.
Time and TV information will be announced when available.
