
Dressel Sets Two American Records on Day 1 of FINA Championships

Four Gators Compete; Szilagyi Makes Semi in 100m Fly
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four Gators began their competition at the FINA World Championships today, with two advancing to the semi-final races.
Caeleb Dressel (USA) set two new American Records on the first day of competition, along with winning a gold medal.
He claimed gold in the 4x100m Free Relay, getting Team USA off to an incredible start with his record time of 47.26. The Team finished ahead of Brazil with a total time of 3:10.06.
Dressel's other record came in the Men's 50m Butterfly semi-final, where he posted a time of 22.76. This was the fastest time of the day and earned him the top seed in tomorrow's final.
In the preliminary round, he was just .01 off the record, recording a time of 22.92, good for second overall.
Rising sophomore Liliana Szilagyi (Hungary) also made it to the semi-final round after finishing 10th with a time of 58.00 in the 100m Butterfly prelims. She just missed the cut for the Finals tomorrow, placing ninth overall with a time of 57.75.
Classmate Khader Baqlah (Jordan) raced in the 400m Freestyle preliminary round, finishing 32nd overall with a personal best time of 3:54.13, winning his heat.
Rounding out the competitors was alum Corey Main, who raced in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay with New Zealand. The team finished 14th, posting a time of 3:17.74 and Main posted a lifetime best split of 49.22. .
