Johnson Wins Gold, Poole Takes Bronze at U20 Pan American Championships

Brandee' Johnson came within four tenths of a second of breaking Queen Harrison's meet record
TRUJILLO, Peru – Rising sophomore Brandee' Johnson nabbed gold and incoming freshman Cory Poole snagged bronze in the 400 hurdles Sunday (July 23) at the U20 Pan American Championships.
Johnson clocked a winning time of 56.65 seconds, missing Queen Harrison's 10-year-old meet record by just four tenths of a second.
Poole missed his personal record from the USATF Outdoor Junior Championships by 0.26 seconds, crossing in 50.14.
Also in international competition, incoming freshman Enzo Hodebar, representing France, finished fifth overall in the long jump at the U20 European Championships. Hodebar entered the competition with a personal best of 7.54 meters, but jumped 7.70 meters or farther on all four of his legal jumps, including a personal record of 7.79 meters.
Incoming freshman Chantz Sawyers competed at the U20 Pan American Championships, qualifying for the 400 meters final. Sawyers was unable to finish the final, but remained in good spirits following the meet.
Next up in international competition for the Gators will be the IAAF World Championships in London, which run from Aug. 4 through Aug. 13. As of this morning, a total of 13 Gators are expected to compete.
