GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Sophomore center Gorjok Gak and graduate transfer guard Egor Koulechov are representing the Gators at the 2017 World University Games.
Gak is suiting up for Australia while Koulechov is playing for team Isreal in Taipei, Taiwan.
Australia and Israel will face each other on Wednesday in group play.
Day One:
Australia, Gak fall to Ukraine in game one
The Aussies were edged out 80-76 in the tournament opener against Ukraine as the Gator sophomore contributed six points and four rebounds. Gak finished 4-for-4 from the charity stripe while shooting 1-of-5 from the field in 11 minutes played.
Koulechov and Israel beat Lithuania in opener
Koulechov contributed four points and three boards as Israel topped Lithuania 79-70. The Gator graduate transfer knocked down both of his attempts from the line while finishing 1-of-4 from the field.
Day Two:
Near double-double from Gak pushes Australia past Lithuania
Gak led Team Australia collecting nine boards and posting eight points. Australia pulled out a tight 80-78 victory over Lithuania for its first win in group play. Gak was 2-of-4 from the field while hitting on 4-of-7 free throw attempts in 27 minutes of action.
Koulechov's team-high not enough in loss to Russia
Koulechov showed off his stroke in a 107-80 loss to Russia. He finished the game with a team-high 18 points including shooting 4-of-5 from behind the arc and 6-of-12 overall. Koulechov also grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
