GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida cross country program gears back up for its second meet of the season Saturday at the Mountain Dew Invitational held at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. Admission is free to fans.
This weekend's meet, which is in its 29th year, will be the only time that the Gators compete at home this season. After this weekend, UF will close out the regular season at the Florida State Invitational (Oct. 6) before competing at the SEC Championships (Oct. 27).
The two events scheduled, a men's 8k and women's 5k, are highlighted by a field of 32 different collegiate programs from Florida and around the southeast.
Earlier this week the Gators announced the high school sections of the meet were canceled due to the damage and flooding caused by Hurricane Irma.
Two weeks ago, the Florida women competed in a 5k dual meet at the North Florida Invitational and prevailed with two first place finishes. The Gators tallied 15 points against UNF and 24 versus Jacksonville University in the season opener.
For the men, this will be their first 8k meet of the year. Previously, the squad competed in a 5k at the UNF Invitational where they defeated Jacksonville by scoring 15 points and trailed UNF with a total of 39 points in the dual meet.
