Jefferson Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

Junior DL notched five tackles and 1.5 sacks during Florida’s win at Kentucky
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior defensive lineman Cece Jefferson was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, as the league announced Monday.
The weekly honor is the first of Jefferson's tenure as a Gator and comes after a career-high performance in Florida's 28-27 win over Kentucky.
The Glen St. Mary, Fla. native posted a career-best 1.5 sacks for a loss of five yards on Saturday, stifling the Wildcats' offense. The sacks came on back-to-back plays in the second quarter, backing up Kentucky to Florida's 29-yard line. Jefferson's sacks forced Kentucky into a 48-yard field goal attempt, which the kicker missed and helped shift the momentum in favor of the Gators.
The junior recorded a total of five tackles in the game, including his 1.5 sacks. This brings him to 12 tackles on the year and pushes his 2017 sack total up to 2.5.
The Gators are back in action on Saturday when they host Vanderbilt in a SEC matchup at Noon on ESPN.
