Stricklin Named to College Football Playoff Committee

Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin is one of six new members on the committee that selects the teams to compete in the College Football Playoff.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Gators Athletic Director Scott Stricklin is joining a new team for the next three years.
The College Football Playoff selection committee announced Wednesday that Stricklin is one of six new members. Stricklin will represent the Southeastern Conference, a spot previously held by former Arkansas AD Jeff Long.
"Jeff did a wonderful job serving as the SEC representative on the committee and I hope to continue that legacy," Stricklin said. "The College Football Playoff has become a special part of our sport and the committee's job is to pick the best teams and to represent the game with integrity."
Stricklin has spent the majority of his career in the SEC. A Mississippi State graduate, Stricklin began his career at his alma mater and made stops at Auburn, Tulane, Baylor and Kentucky prior to returning to Mississippi State. He served as the Bulldogs' AD for six years prior to taking over Florida's athletic department in November 2016.
Stricklin was named Athletic Director of the Year among FBS schools in 2016 by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA). He has served as the SEC representative on the NCAA Division I Leadership Council and is currently a member of the Division I Football Competition Committee.
The CFP committee consists of 13 members who operate on three-year terms.
There are five classifications of members: people with experience as (1) coaches, (2) student-athletes, (3) administrators, (4) journalists and also (5) sitting directors of athletics. Members of the media must be retired.

According to the CFP's official website, the selection committee's responsibilities include:
- Rank the top 25 teams and assign the top four to semifinal sites.
- Assign teams to New Year's bowls.
- Create competitive matchups.
- Attempt to avoid rematches of regular-season games and repeat appearances in specific bowls.
- Consider geography.
