GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked Gators will begin their 2018 dual match season Monday at 6 p.m. when they host the Knights of the University of Central Florida at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
Florida is entering the dual match season after an impressive showing in the fall during the individual portion of their schedule that earned them the No. 9 ranking in the preseason International Tennis Association Preseason Top 25, as well as numerous individual accolades.
Florida in the Rankings
To go along with the Gators No. 9 team ranking is a handful of guys ranked in both singles and doubles. Sophomore Johannes Ingildsen is ranked seventh in the nation while junior Alfredo Perez is ranked eighth. Freshman Duarte Vale enters the season ranked No. 39.
In doubles, the Gators boast one of the most impressive duos in the country as Perez and Ingildsen earned the No. 1 ranking after winning a great fall that included an ITA National Championship. Florida is the only school in the country that needs a whole hand to count of the number of pairs ranked in doubles. Joining Perez and Ingildsen are No. 10 Vale and McClain Kessler, No. 11 Chase Perez-Blanco and Oliver Crawford, No. 12 Andy Andrade and Perez-Blanco and No. 35 Kessler and Andrade.
History vs UCF
• This will be the 17th meeting between UF and UCF and the first since 2013, a 7-0 UF win. First meeting was back in 1983
• The Gators own a perfect 16-0 record over the Knights
• This will be the 8th time that Florida has opened their dual match season against UCF and the first since a 5-2 victory in 2001
• Florida has swept UCF 7-0 in each of the last three meetings ('10, '11, '13), including 7-0 wins in seven different matchups
• The Gators have lost a point to UCF only four times and have only lost two points in a match to UCF three times ('01, '02, '07)
• From 2003-05 Florida beat UCF at home in the first round of the NCAA tournament, all 4-0 sweeps by UF

• Kessler won the doubles title at the Gator Ranked +1 tournament, teamed with Vale at the ITA All-American Championship and upset the No. 1 seeded pair from Wake Forrest and advanced to the semifinals
• Perez won the doubles National Championship with Ingildsen at the ITA All-American Championship, won the doubles title at the Gator Ranked +1 tournament

• The Knights enter the 2018 season with a young, but talented, roster that includes five freshman, two sophomores, and three seniors
• In 2017 UCF reached the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2005
