First appearance for Bradley Beal and fifth nod for Al Horford
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Former Gators guard Bradley Beal and forward Al Horford have been chosen as to the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles.
This is the third time since 2010 that multiple Gators have been selected for the game (2010, Horford and David Lee; 2013, Lee and Joakim Noah)
This is the first selection for Beal who joins Horford, Lee and Noah as the fourth Florida player to get an All-Star nod.
The Washington Wizards shooting guard, 24, is the youngest of the former Gator to be selected. This season he is averaging career-highs in points (23.6 pts/g), rebounds (4.3 reb/g) and assists (3.7 ast/g).
Earlier this season, Beal set a new career-high when he dropped 51 points on the Portland Trail Blazers on Dec. 5th.
He spent the 2011-12 season in Gainesville and was the Gators second leading scorer at 14.8 points per game while also leading the team in boards with 6.7 rebounds per game.
Beal was selected with the third pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and has spent all six seasons with the Wizards.
For Horford, this is the fifth time he has been chosen as an All-Star, the most of any former Gator.
This will be the first time as a Celtic as his previous four appearances came as a member of the Atlanta Hawks.
This season, he is averaging 13.3 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game and a career-high 5.3 assists per game.
While at Florida, Horford helped lead the Gators to back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007.
The Hawks selected Horford third overall in the 2007 NBA Draft.
