BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Tuesday the Southeastern Conference announced the 2018 men's tennis preseason coaches' poll, with the Gators being picked to finish in a tie for second with Georgia.
As voted on by the 13 head coaches in the SEC, Florida received 153 points in the preseason poll, trailing only Texas A&M who received 157 points. The top three vote-getters in the SEC Coaches' Poll are all ranked inside the top 10 of the International Tennis Association team rankings. Georgia is ranked fourth, Texas A&M seventh and Florida ninth.
The Gators are coming off a 9-3 SEC record in 2017 and a third-place finish in the regular season standings. Florida made their 27th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance last season and welcome back seven student-athletes, while introducing three freshmen that made up the No. 2 overall recruiting class in the country.
Florida opened the 2018 campaign Monday night with a 6-1 victory over UCF. The Gators will be back at home Saturday and Sunday when they host the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Florida will take on South Alabama on Saturday at 2 p.m. and then either South Florida or Pepperdine on Sunday.
