NEW ORLEANS – Following his role in two collegiate all-time top 10 times, sophomore Grant Holloway has been named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Men's National Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the organization Tuesday morning.
Last Friday night at the Clemson Invitational, Holloway tied the third-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in collegiate history, crossing in 7.49 seconds.
Here's more context to Holloway's world-leading time:
Holloway followed that up Saturday afternoon with a 45.86-second split as the second leg of Florida's 4x400 relay team—which clocked the eighth-fastest time in collegiate history (3:03.49). Junior Kunle Fasasi led off the relay and passed the baton to Holloway, who gave way to freshmen Chantz Sawyers and Benjamin Lobo Vedel, whose 45.25-second split was the fastest of anyone at the meet.
The Gators, once again ranked No. 1 on the men's side and up to No. 5 on the women's side of the USTFCCCA National Team Rankings, continue their 2018 season Friday and Saturday at the Razorback Invitational. The meet is expected to feature Holloway's first long jump competition of the year.

Here's more context to Holloway's world-leading time:
- Sixth sub-7.50-second performance in collegiate history (Omar McLeod, Arkansas, 7.45 at 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships; Reggie Torian, Wisconsin, 7.47 in February 1997; McLeod, 7.49 at 2015 SEC Indoor Championships; Jarret Eaton, Syracuse, 7.49 in January 2012; Torian, 7.49 at 1997 USATF Indoor Championships)
- Fourth man in collegiate history to break 7.50 seconds
- Tied Eaton as the No. 3-ranked 60 hurdler in collegiate history
- Broke Gator Great Eddie Lovett's school record from the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships (7.50)
- Time would have been tied for sixth-fastest in the world for the 2017 season
- Became only man in the world since 1999 with indoor personal records below 7.50 seconds (60 hurdles) and at least 8.05 meters (long jump)—prior to Holloway breaking 7.50 seconds, he and two-time Olympic decathlon gold medalist Ashton Eaton were the only men in the world during that span with indoor PRs below 7.75 seconds and at least 8.05 meters
