GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Gators head football coach Dan Mullen made an appearance at Saturday's men's basketball game against Baylor.

He made a statement, too.

Mullen pumped up the crowd at halftime of Florida's 81-60 victory over Baylor by referring to what he calls the "Gator Standard."

What's that, you ask?

According to Mullen, it's having a national championship baseball team. It's having a gymnastics team that welcomed the No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Sooners into town on Friday night and sent them packing with a loss in front of a sellout crowd at the O'Dome.

The "Gator Standard" stretches across campus.

"We are going to give you a football team, I promise you, that you can be proud of both on the field on Saturdays and in the community,'' Mullen said. "Our guys are working their tail off right now to live up to what we know the 'Gator Standard' is."

Ultimately, Mullen said, the "Gator Standard" is not only about winning Southeastern Conference championships, but national championships.

He should know. He was part of two during his stint as Florida's offensive coordinator.

His job now is to rebuild the football program into a national championship contender. But first, Mullen would like to see Ben Hill Griffin Stadium filled on April 14 for the spring game.
