GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Southeastern Conference unveiled its 15th annual men's basketball coaches preseason All-SEC first and second teams Tuesday, tipping off the 2018-19 season.
Entering their senior campaign, Gators guards KeVaughn Allen and Jalen Hudson have been named to the All-SEC second team.
Allen is a member of Florida's 1,000-point club and the all-time leading free throw shooter, connecting at a .875 rate for his career. He had three 20-point games last season including 28 points in the win versus Arkansas, where he went 6-for-7 from 3-point range. He reached his career high six three pointers for the third time last season in the win against then-ranked No. 19 Auburn. Allen is also only the ninth Gator in school history to eclipse 900 points through his first two seasons.
Hudson ended the 2017-18 season as the Gators leading scorer, with eight 20-point games. Hudson also received SEC Player of the Week honors three times last season, becoming the first Gator to do so. He was also selected to the media's preseason All-SEC second team last month.
Twelve different schools are represented on the two teams with Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Tennessee having two selections each. In all, 39 different players received votes for the coaches' teams.
The coaches' preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted on by the SEC Head Men's Basketball Coaches. No ties were broken and no predicted order of finish was made.
The 2018-19 season officially tips off this evening with nine SEC teams in action. Conference play is set to begin on January 5 and the 2019 SEC Tournament will be March 13-17 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
