GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jessica Pascoe's cross country resume got a little bit longer as she was named the 2018 SEC Women's Runner of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The junior became only the third Florida woman to win the annual award from the conference and the first since Rebecca Lowe in 2009. Becki Wells, 1996, was the first female runner to earn the honor.
Pascoe also became the first Gator to win the SEC individual cross country title since Lowe in 2009 and ran the fastest 6k pace of anyone ever to compete in a Gator uniform, crossing in 18:54.98. Five Florida Gators have won the individual title before Pascoe.
She also helped the women's team surprise the conference with a runner-up finish, despite being picked to finish 8th in the preseason coaches' poll.
Pascoe has been the Gators top-finisher all season. She started the season with a first-place finish at North Florida. She made history at the Mountain Dew Invitational when she became the third women in school history to earn three top-5 finishes at the home meet. She finished runner-up at the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M, recording a 20:04 and putting her third in the SEC 6k times. At the SEC Championships, she won the race by five seconds and earned First-Team All-SEC Honors.
The Australia native earned two SEC Women's Runner of the Week accolades following her performances at the Mountain Dew Invitational and the Arturo Barrios Invitational. She was also named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Women's National Athlete of the Week following her performance at the conference meet.
