Offense Rolls in Win over Siena

WHAT HAPPENED: The Gators scored 10 unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning to be Siena 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at McKethan Stadium. Jackson Kowar settled in after the first frame and retired the final 14 hitters he faced, finishing with 10 strikeouts and two runs allowed over seven innings.

At the plate, a trio of UF players had three hits on the day. JJ Schwarz (3-for-5) hit his first home run of the season and finished with 3 RBI while Blake Reese (3-for-4, double, triple, 2 runs) and Nick Horvath (3-for-4, double, 3 runs) also had three hit apiece.

Freshman Jack Leftwich (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R) and junior Michael Byrne (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R) finished off the Saints over the final two innings.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Gators' Power Stroke - Through the first two games, UF has hit five total home runs. JJ Schwarz, Wil Dalton and Keenan Bell each hit homers on Saturday afternoon after Jonathan India and Brady McConnell had home runs on Friday night.

FROM THE COACH: Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan - "I thought Jackson really settled down after the first inning. I thought over his last few innings it was the best sequence of innings he's put together for the Gators. It was sharp, his delivery was on point, he had some up-tempo delivery and the ball was coming out and had a better angle. His breaking ball is so improved. I'm really pleased with how he threw the ball. It was great to get Jack Leftwich out there, got a double play ball, and then Michael Byrne of course.

"I thought we swung the bats great. JJ is swinging the bat really good, had three hits, Horvath had three hits, Blake Reese had three hits and we had three homers. It was a good night."

STANDOUT STAT: 11 / 0 - Florida's pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts with no walks on Saturday. Jackson Kowar had 10 strikeouts while Jack Leftwich had one.

UP NEXT: Florida's Tyler Dyson will make his first weekend start for the Gators in the series finale on Sunday against Siena. First pitch is at 1 p.m. The game will broadcast live on SEC Network+ and the Gator IMG Sports Network.
