TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Florida men's tennis team dropped three spots to No. 11 in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Top 25 rankings, announced by the national organization Wednesday. Individual rankings were released for the first time in 2018 with multiple Gators earning singles and doubles rankings.
The top five remained unchanged for the third consecutive week with Wake Forest taking the top spot followed by Ohio State, North Carolina, Georgia, and USC. Wake Forest received nine first-place votes with Ohio State receiving two and Stanford one.
Florida has been ranked in the top 25 of the Oracle/ITA Rankings for 31 straight weeks and the top 20 for 29 straight weeks. This is the first year that the ITA has only ranked 25 teams. In 2017, they ranked the top 50, and prior to that, they ranked the top 75.
The Gators are one of five SEC schools ranked in the top 25. Joining the Gators in the rankings are Georgia (No. 4), Texas A&M (No. 7), Mississippi State (No. 14) and South Carolina (No. 25). The SEC has the second most schools ranked, trailing only the Big 12 who has six.
Individual rankings were released for the first time in the Spring season after being released on Nov. 15, 2017. Florida is well represented in both singles and doubles. The Gators have three doubles teams ranked in the top 10 with four ranked overall. Florida is the only school with even two doubles pairs in the top 10.
