GAINESVILLE, Fla.--The Florida baseball team will open Southeastern Conference play with a three-game series in Columbia against South Carolina.

The Gators enter the meeting a a 16-3 record through the first four weeks of the season.

Florida has won 15 of the last 20 meetings against South Carolina, but the Gamecocks hold a slight edge in the overall series 45-44. Under head coach Kevin O'Sullivan, the Gators are 7-2-1 in regular season series against USC with three sweeps.

• The Gators' pitching staff had its best weekend of the year against Rhode Island, allowing just two earned runs over 27.0 innings (0.67 ERA). UF allowed just two extra base hits (2B, HR) and 11 total hits, limiting the Rams to a .129 batting average.
