BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third consecutive week freshman Oliver Crawford has earned Southeastern Conference weekly award recognition. After earning back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week honors, Crawford elevated his game this past weekend to earn SEC Player of the Week honors.
The true freshman has really settled into a groove since SEC play started a few weeks ago, and has now earned his third SEC honor in as many weeks. Crawford is joined by fellow freshman Andy Andrade as the two Gators who have earned a weekly award this season. Andrade was named SEC freshman of the week back on February 14.
During last week's three matches, two in the conference and one out of conference, Crawford kept his perfect SEC match record alive with two singles wins and a doubles win. Overall last weekend he was 3-0 in singles.
To start off the week Crawford earned a 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 victory over No. 30 Alastair Gray of TCU before picking up wins against Kentucky's Enzo Wallart, 6-2, 6-3, and Vanderbilt's Baker Newman, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. In his match against Newman, Crawford trailed 4-2 in the third set but battled back to win four straight points and clinch the match for the Gators. He also clinched the match for Florida against Kentucky. In doubles, he and his teammate Chase Perez-Blanco had a strong showing with a 6-0 win at Vanderbilt that lasted less than 20 minutes.
Crawford's impressive weekend improved his dual season singles record to 10-3 overall and 6-0 in the SEC. He is 3-1 against nationally ranked opponents and has a perfect 6-0 record when playing at the No. 3 spot. In doubles, he improved to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the SEC.
