Gators Headed to University Park, Pa., for NCAA Regional

A top-two team finish would send Florida to its 36th NCAA Championship.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The next stop for the University of Florida gymnastics team is University Park, Pa., for the April 7 NCAA Regional Gymnastics Championships. The NCAA Gymnastics Committee unveiled the fields for each of the six 2018 NCAA Region Championship sites Monday afternoon.
The field for the NCAA University Park Gymnastics Regional includes No. 5 Florida, No. 8 Washington, No. 17 Arizona State, No. 15 Missouri, No. 27 West Virginia, No. 29 Penn State and No. 30 New Hampshire.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each region site advances to the NCAA Championships, set for April 20-21 at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo.
Start time for NCAA University Park Regional competition is 4 p.m. ET in Penn State's Rec Hall.
NCAA Regional Competition Info:
In 2017, UF won the NCAA Gainesville Regional to advance to its 35th NCAA Championships. Florida took third in the 2017 NCAA Super Six team final, held in St. Louis, Mo.
Each of the six regions have three teams among the nation's top 18, with one team each from the nation's No. 1-6, No. 7-12, and No. 13-18 ranking positions. The final three spots in each regional were filled from teams ranked 19-36 by regional qualifying score. The committee tried to keep those teams within their own region as much as possible.
The 2018 University Park Regional contains two teams that advanced to the 2017 NCAA Championships – Florida and Washington. Four other teams among the field will look to return to NCAA Championship action – Arizona State (1999 – last appearance), New Hampshire (1994), Penn State (2014) and West Virginia (2000).
Florida will open regional competition on the floor exercise.
In addition, four all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and two individual specialists per event advance to each of the six regions. The all-around competitors and event specialists came from within the region. Yale freshman Jacey Baldovino is paired with the Gators for regional competition.
For the fifth consecutive season, the seeding determined at the time of regional selections will be maintained throughout the championships. Standard bracketing procedures will be followed with teams seeded 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 placed on the left side of the bracket and teams seeded 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 placed on the right side of the bracket.
Final Season of Super Six Format:
This is the final season of the NCAA Super Six Championship format. Since 1993, the top three teams from each NCAA semifinal meet the next day for the NCAA Super Six team final.
Starting in 2019, the NCAA Championships moves to a four-team regional/super-regional bracket model. The regional/super-regional competition will be conducted over three days at four sites around the country. Two teams at each site will compete in a play-in on the first day.
On the second day of regionals, eight teams will compete in two sessions of four, and the top two in each of those sessions will advance to the next day. On the final day, four teams will compete in one session, and the top two teams will advance to the finals site.
At the national championship site, the eight-team field will compete in two four-team semifinals. The top two teams in each semifinal advance to the NCAA team final.
