Gators Clinch Series over No. 8 Vanderbilt

WHAT HAPPENED: No. 2 Florida used a seven-run seventh inning to blow past No. 8 Vanderbilt 10-2 on Saturday, clinching the series against the Commodores.

The Gators led 3-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh before putting together a two-out rally that brought home seven runs in the frame.

Keenan Bell (2-for-3) and JJ Schwarz (2-for-4) each had three RBI on the day. Schwarz now has 214 RBI in his career, tying Brad Wilkerson for second-most in UF history.

All nine Florida starters recorded at least one hit on the afternoon while six different players had at least one RBI.

On the mound, starter Jackson Kowar went 6.1 innings with one unearned run allowed on five hits. Jordan Butler (0.2 IP) and Tommy Mace (1.0 IP) had scoreless outings out of the bullpen.

Florida took an early lead in the first inning on Schwarz's two-out, two-run single gave UF a 2-0 lead. A sac fly in the second from Nelson Maldonado made it 3-0.

The Gators batted around in the seventh with seven runs on six hits.

Vanderbilt's runs came off an RBI single from Alonzo Jones – and a solo home run from Ty Duvall in the ninth.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: JJ Schwarz – With four RBI on the weekend, Schwarz has reached 214 in his career. He is now tied with Brad Wilkerson for second-most at Florida, trailing on Preston Tucker (258 career RBI).

FROM THE COACH: Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan on today's game: "In year's past when we've been going really well offensively, we've been really good with two outs, we've been gritty and have had some really quality at bats. Those innings don't come around very often, but I think we had eight guys reach with two outs, six hits with two outs. Going back to the first, we obviously distanced ourselves there in the seventh, but JJ got a two-out single back up the middle to drive in two runs. That was big for us to get on the board early.

"Congratulations to JJ, it's remarkable. Last night I gave the lineup card to Michael Byrne for breaking the saves record and less than 24 hours later I'm giving one to JJ for being second all-time in RBI with Gator great Brad Wilkerson.

"Records that get broken, it's hard. There have been so many good players that have come through this program. I'm just really happy for JJ and Michael to experience that."

STANDOUT STAT: 9 – Nine of the Gators' 10 runs on the day came with two outs.

UP NEXT: Florida and Vanderbilt conclude the series on Sunday at noon on SEC Network. The game will also be broadcast live on the Gator IMG Sports Network.
