This is Barnhill’s (9-0) seventh career SEC Pitcher of the Week award.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the second consecutive week, junior right-handed pitcher Kelly Barnhill earned Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week after a pair of victories in the circle at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
This is Barnhill's (9-0) seventh career SEC Pitcher of the Week award, which is the most pitcher of the week awards garnered by a Gator in program history. Stacey Nelson earned the award six times during her career.
The Marietta, Ga. native continued to be dominant from the rubber as she pitched 10.0 scoreless innings, while allowing only a single hit to help the Gators. Barnhill is now riding a 16.2 scoreless inning streak into SEC Opening Weekend against Kentucky (Mar. 9-11).
Barnhill started the weekend pitching 4.0 innings in the combined, 10-0 (5), shutout of tournament host Cal State Fullerton. Fullerton registered the only hit of the weekend against Barnhill as she struck out eight and walked four in the contest.
Her dominance continued when she pitched 6.0 innings of the combined no-hitter against No. 8 Baylor to end the Gators stay in California. Florida secured the 4-0 victory after Aleshia Ocasio registered three-straight strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Entering the contest, the Bears had only struck out at most five times in a game, but Barnhill registered 13 strikeouts against the potent offense. She has now tallied 10 or more strikeouts in a game four times this season.
Next up for Florida is SEC Opening Weekend against Kentucky (Mar. 9-11) at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
