Florida hosts is next-to-last tune-up meet ahead of the SEC Championships
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida will host numerous Olympians, world champions, and highly-ranked collegians for the second time in three weeks, as Friday marks the running of this year's Tom Jones Memorial.
SPECTATOR INFORMATION (all times Eastern)
Friday's competition will be a mix of primary and off events for the Gators. Two-time indoor 60-meter hurdles national champion and reigning NCAA outdoor 110-meter hurdles champion Grant Holloway will run the high hurdles against Alabama's Ruebin Walters, last year's national runner-up. The two are ranked second and fourth nationally this season.
Reigning outdoor national champion KeAndre Bates will look to improve his season-best triple jump mark, though he already ranks third nationally entering Friday.
Four of the nation's top 15 men's hammer throwers—three of which are Gators—will open the meet at 11 a.m. Junior and 2016 SEC champion Anders Eriksson, who ranks third nationally, freshman Thomas Mardal (seventh nationally), and redshirt junior AJ McFarland (15th nationally) comprise Florida's trio.
High jumpers Clayton Brown and Jhonny Victor, both of whom rank in the top 20 nationally, will compete against Alabama's Shelby McEwen, this year's SEC Indoors winner.
On the women's side, junior quarter-miler Sharrika Barnett, who ranks second nationally and missed the school record by one tenth of a second two weeks ago at Pepsi Florida Relays, will run the 200 meters. Fellow quarter-miler Taylor Manson, who ranks sixth nationally, is entered in the 200 as well.
Top field event competitors to watch on the women's side are 2017 SEC Outdoors and 2018 SEC Indoors shot put champion Lloydricia Cameron, along with multi-time All-Americans Yanis David and Darrielle McQueen in the long jump.
The meet will close with Florida's nation-leading men's 4x400 relay team taking the track, possibly making a run at the school record of 2:59.73—which is the third-fastest time in collegiate history. Florida's top quartet of junior Kunle Fasasi, Holloway, freshman Chantz Sawyers, and freshman Benjamin Lobo Vedel ran 3:01.00 two weeks ago.
Notable alums competing include two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time 400-meter hurdles world champion Kerron Clement (400 meters), 2015 IAAF World Indoor Championships long jump gold medalist Marquis Dendy (100 meters), 2017 American champion Eric Futch and 2017 IAAF World Championships finalist TJ Holmes (both in 400 hurdles), collegiate record holder Kyra Jefferson (200 meters), and two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champion triple jumper Christian Taylor (400 meters).
