Weekly Report: April 16

Florida sits at 12-3 in SEC action halfway through the league schedule. The Gators have another Top 10 matchup on deck with a road trip to Kentucky this weekend.

KEY NOTES OF WEEK:

Florida improved to 32-6 on the year with a 12-3 SEC record at the midway point of the league schedule…With its 30th win on Friday night, the Gators became the second-fastest team in school history to reach 30 wins, just one game shy of the 2016 team that started 30-5…Florida's 12-3 record in SEC games is its best start in league play in 11 years under head coach Kevin O'Sullivan…The Gators completed a season sweep against in-state rival Florida State with a 6-3 win in Tallahassee on Tuesday night…UF has now won a program best eight games in a row against the Seminoles and 13 of the last 14 against FSU…Florida then swept Missouri over the weekend with strong pitching and late offensive prowess…All three games were tied or one-run games after six innings before UF took control…On Friday night, the game was tied 1-1 until Wil Dalton hit a two-out, two-run double to give the Gators a 3-1 lead after Brady Singer's strong start…In the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, UF led 3-2 after six innings before exploding for six runs in the seventh and going on to win 10-2…In the nightcap, Florida led 2-1 before scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and winning 7-2…In the sweep, Nick Horvath went 6-for-10 with two doubles and two RBI…Jonathan India extended his hitting streak to 23 games and went 6-for-12 (.500) last week…Jackson Kowar improved to 6-1 on the year with his best start of the year, going 7.0 innings with two runs allowed on six hits…Michael Byrne earned three saves last week, bringing his season total to 10 with a stellar 0.84 earned run average.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

JJ Schwarz – Sr. – C – Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

  • Schwarz led the team with 6 RBI last week and hit .500 in a Top 10 road win at Florida State and a weekend sweep against SEC East rival Missouri
  • In the sweep against Missouri, he went 5-for-10 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI
  • His RBI single in the sixth inning at FSU provided the winning run and he added a solo homer in the 8th inning
  • In game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, Schwarz had a two-run double in the first inning and a solo home run in the sixth inning that gave UF a 3-2 lead before they blew the game open in the seventh
  • Schwarz took over the team lead with 36 RBI on the season

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Brady Singer – Jr. – RHP – Eustis, Fla.
1 G/GS, 7.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R
  • Despite a no decision, Singer went 7.0 innings with just one hit allowed
  • Missouri's lone run came in the first inning without a hit after a sac bunt and RBI groundout
  • After surrendering the lone run, Singer retired the next 10 in a row before the Tigers recorded their first hit in the fourth inning; he then stranded the runner
  • Singer did not allow a hit over his final three innings
