Bryan became Florida’s 14th defensive lineman selected in the first round.
DALLAS – Former Gator defensive lineman Taven Bryan was selected 29th overall in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday night by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"This guy can reset the line of scrimmage," said ESPN analyst Louis Riddick. "Just because he doesn't have stats does not mean that he is not productive. Disruption is a stat."
Overall, UF has now had 52 first-round selections in its storied history and has totaled 17 first-round picks since 2007, which is third most among all schools nationally. Only Alabama (27) and Ohio State (18) have more, while Florida State (13), Notre Dame (11) and Clemson (10) trail the Gators.
In addition, UF has had 12 defensive lineman selected in the first round since 1989, which is most of any school over that span.
Bryan is the first Florida defensive lineman selected in the draft's opening round since 2015 and he's the 14th DL in UF history selected in the first round.
Jacksonville has now drafted 10 Gators, most recently selecting Dante Fowler, Jr. in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. In addition, Bryan joins Fowler, Fred Taylor (1998), Reggie Nelson (2007) and DE Derrick Harvey (2008) as the only Jaguars' first round draft picks from Florida.
UF has now had at least one pick in every NFL Draft since 1952, longest streak in the SEC.
