Fifth victory on PGA Tour and second at Zurich Classic
GAINESVILLE,Fla. -- For the second time in his career, Gator alum Billy Horschel won at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Horschel claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the Zurich Classic in 2013 but, this time needed help from a teammate to take home the hardware.
The event shifted to a team event in 2017 and Horschel paired up with Scott Piercy.
The duo rocketed up the leaderboard on the weekend. After carding a 73 (+1) in the second round, they shot 61 (-11) on Saturday to move into a tie for fifth place and three shots off the lead.
Horschel and Piercy birdied the first and second hole to get their Sunday started. They would do the same on the back nine en route to a bogey free 67 (-5). The round was enough to best the pairing of Jason Dufner and Pat Perez one stoke as Horschel and Piercy carded a 266 (-22) for the tournament.
This is Horschel's fifth win in his PGA Tour career becoming the ninth Florida Gator alum to amass five wins on the Tour. The victory helps Horschel move up 67 spots in the FedEx Cup rankings as he now is 33rd in the rankings.
