Andy Zhang and Gordon Neale named to All-SEC teams
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Four Gators received SEC honors, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Andy Zhang and junior Gordon Neale were named All-SEC with Zhang chosen as a first team member as Neale picked up second team honors. The Gators have had at least one All-SEC selection in each of head coach J.C. Deacon's four seasons at the helm.
Zhang becomes the 45th player in program history to be voted to the All-SEC First Team. He won his first collegiate title at the conference championship in late April, winning after three playoff holes.
This is the second consecutive year Neale has garnered All-SEC honors. The California native has improved his stroke average by more than a shot this season, leading the team at 70.92 entering NCAA Regional play.
For the fourth straight season, a Florida player has landed on the all-freshman team. This year, John Axelsen was selected as one of six members on the squad. The previous three Gator honorees, Zhang (2017), Sam Horsfield (2016) and Alejandro Tosti (2015), all garnered All-SEC honors in their second seasons in Gainesville.
Axelsen is currently sixth in the conference in stroke average with a 71.81.
Redshirt sophomore Blake Dyer represents Florida on the community service team. Dyer participated in Climb for Cancer which helps children whom have fought or are fighting cancer and gives them the opportunity to participate in a sports clinic. During the event, he helped facilitated games for youth and helped walk them around to different stations.
