Anders Eriksson is the first Gator in history to win the award
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Junior thrower Anders Eriksson was named the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Men's Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office Thursday morning.
A native of Norrahammar, Jonkoping, Sweden, Eriksson is the first Gator—male or female—to win the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year award since its inception in 2004. He and Mississippi State's Nicolas Quijera, also a thrower, shared the men's award. Both rank third nationally in their respective events and hold grade point averages higher than 3.75.
Eriksson touts a 3.79 GPA as an aerospace engineering major. The Swede also ranks third nationally in the hammer throw, boasting a season-best mark of 73.58 meters (241 feet, 5 inches)—which is a school record and makes him the No. 4-ranked hammer thrower in the SEC since 2002.
Here is a look at some other feats Eriksson's achieved this year and throughout his three years with the Gators:
Eriksson and the Gators continue their outdoor campaign this weekend at the SEC Outdoor Championships, which begin Friday in Knoxville, Tenn.
