
Hammer Throwers, Pascoe Open Gators’ Scoring at SEC Outdoors

All 15 of the Florida men's points came in the hammer throw, which saw Anders Eriksson break his own school record by two feet en route to a runner-up finish. Eriksson's best throw of the day, one that measured 74.19 meters (243 feet, 5 inches), came on his fifth attempt. The Swede is just the third SEC hammer thrower since 2002 to eclipse 74.15 meters.

On a more personal note for Eriksson, his throw surpassed the 74-meter qualifying standard for this summer's European Championships, therefore securing a chance to represent his country in Berlin come August.
Freshman Thomas Mardal added four points with his fifth-place finish. Redshirt junior AJ McFarland improved his No. 5-ranked mark on the school's All-Time Top 10 by 15 centimeters, finishing sixth with a top throw of 68.14 meters (223 feet, 6 inches).

Florida's women got their two points from redshirt freshman Jessica Pascoe, who finished seventh in her first collegiate 10,000 meters race. Pascoe became the first Gator to score in the SEC 10,000 meters since Lauren Brasure also took seventh in 2015.

Freshman Cory Poole was the top overall qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles preliminary, crossing in 50.42 seconds, just seven hundredths off his season best.

Florida's other qualifiers for Sunday finals were junior Kyren Hollis (800 meters), sophomore Brandee' Johnson (400 hurdles), and freshman Nikki Stephens (400 hurdles). Stephens became the No. 10-ranked 400 hurdler on the school's All-Time Top 10 with her qualifying time of 58.28 seconds.
