NO. 8 FLORIDA SOCCER WINS 10TH SHUTOUT, 7-0 OVER MISSISSIPPI STATE

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 8 Florida soccer (13-1, 6-0 SEC) tied last year's shutout victory total recording their 10th shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over Mississippi State (10-3-2, 1-3-1 SEC) Saturday at Percy Beard Stadium.  The Gators have shutout five of the six Southeastern Conference opponents they have faced this year.  The Florida defense again stepped up, as for the fifth time this season, they did not allow a single shot on goal in the first half.  The Gators ended the match with 23 shots on goal to the Bulldogs' two.

The Gators got on the scoreboard early in the first half at 3:55 when Heather Mitts' cross from the right side was deflected off a Bulldog defender for an own goal.  The only other goal scored in the first half was at 37:17 on an 18-yarder by Erin Baxter.
 
Florida opened with quickly in the second half as it scored three goals within the first four minutes into the half.  Melissa Pini scored back-to-back goals in a span of two and a half minutes.  Her first goal was scored after only 59 second had elapsed into the half.  A minute following Pini's second goal, Alison Benoit netted an unassisted goal from 25 yards.  The Gators' sixth goal was scored by Sarah Yohe at 52:03 after Denise Alverio's shot bounced off the cross bar directly to Yohe.  The Gators' final goal came from Danielle Fotopoulos, who added to her Florida season goal record with her 14th goal of the season. 
 
Next up, the Gators meet Mississippi Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m at Percy Beard Stadium for the final regular season home match of the year.  Admission is free.
