GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 8 University of Florida soccer team (8-1, 4-0 SEC) earned their sixth shutout of the season with a 5-0 victory over Old Dominion (5-6, 1-3 Colonial Conf.) in the first match of the second annual University Centre Hotel Shootout in front of 893 fans at Percy Beard Stadium. The Gator defense stepped up again as they limited ODU to zero shots on goal in the first half. It is the second time this season that the UF defense has limited their opponents to zero shots in the first half. The last time the Gators accomplished this feat was against Central Florida on Sept. 18.
The Gators first got on the scoreboard at 14:14 when junior All-American
Danielle Fotopoulos scored on a straight header off a
Sarah Yohe assist from seven yards out. Florida scored seven minutes later at 21:10 when sophomore forward
Melissa Pini netted a straight ahead goal from within the goal box from five yards out. Yohe was credited with her second assist of the match on Pini's goal. Fotopoulos would score her second goal of the half at 31:02 when a shot by
Lisa Olinyk bounced off the goal post and headed straight for Fotopoulos, who took the shot from eight yards out. Her second goal tied a Gator record for most goals in a half and marked the second time this season that Fotopoulos has scored two goals in a single half. The Gators would go on to score once more before halftime when sophomore
Katie Tullis hit a straight header at the top of the goal box from five yards out. The Gators scored their final goal of the match in the second half when
Leah Bridges scored her first goal of the season with a long 20 yard shot from the left side of the field from outside the penalty box.
