Leading the offensive charge for the Florida Gators were forwards
Danielle Fotopoulos and
Melissa Pini as they each scored two goals. Fotopoulos scored the Gators' first goal on an eight-yard boot at 8:13 and scored her second goal on an 11-yard center shot at 43:55. She was assisted on both goals by Wake Forest transfer
Lisa Olinyk. Fotopoulos' two goals moves her into the nation's lead in scoring points (81 pts.) for the second consecutive year, as she surpassed Brigham Young's Shauna Rohbock (79 pts.). Last year before transferring to UF, Fotopoulos led the nation in scoring at Southern Methodist with 83 points. Her two goals scored against Wake Forest places her total this year to 34 goals. Fotopoulos is now one goal from tying Rohbock for the national lead in goals scored. Pini scored her goals on a penalty kick at 30:38 and on a 20-yard kick to give UF its only second half goal. Also scoring a goal for the Gators was defender
Leah Bridges on a six yard center shot at 19:09. It was the fourth goal scored by a Gator defender this year.
Florida will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals and will play the winner of Saturday night's match between top seeded North Carolina and James Madison University.
