Two Gator Gymnasts Earn 10.0 Marks At SportsChannel Senior Night
Saturday, March 23, 1996 | Gymnastics
University of Florida All-American gymnasts Kristen Guise and Amy Myerson earned perfect marks of 10.0 for the uneven bars Friday evening at the SportsChannel Senior Night held in front of a Stephen C. O'Connell Center crowd of 3,318. The 10.0s are the first for either gymnast and they become only the second and third gymnasts in Gator history to earn the perfect score. In 1991, UF's Pam Titus became the first gymnast in collegiate history to earn a 10.0 for the floor exercise. The 10.0 marks now stand as the Gator All-Time Best uneven bars record, erasing the 1994 record of 9.95 set by Guise at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships.
Guise claimed the meet's other event titles outright Friday. She won vault (9.90), balance beam (9.925) and floor crowns (9.95) plus claimed the all-around title with a total of 39.775. Her all-around title was just a fraction away from the Gator All-Time Best record of 39.80 she set March 8.
Florida, ranked No. 5 in the nation, easily won the SportsChannel Senior Night team title with a total of 195.00. No. 22 Iowa was second at 190.70, followed by Rhode Island (183.925) and Yale (182.925).
Next up for Florida is the Southeastern Conference Championships, set for Friday, March 29 in Lexington, Ky.
