SOCCER TEAM DEFEATS CENTRAL FLORIDA

ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 8 University of Florida soccer team pushed its 1996 season record to 5-0 Wednesday by defeating Central Florida 2-0 at the UCF Soccer Complex.  The win marks the fourth consecutive shut-out win for the Gators.  The loss drops Central Florida to 3-2 for the 1996 season.

Florida got on the board at the 37:31 mark when sophomore Katie Tullis scored off a 20-foot lob over the goalkeeper's head.  She was assisted on the play from sophomore Leah Bridges.  It was Tullis' second goal of the 1996 season.  The Gators scored their final goal three minutes later when freshman Sarah Yohe drove down the center of the field off a midfield breakaway to hit a 14-foot goal.  UF sophomore Melissa Pini was credited with an assist on the play. 
 
Wednesday's match was a strong defensive effort for the Gators, as UCF registered no shots on goal for the match--marking the first time in UF history that the opponent couldn't get off a single shot.  The Gators posted 22 shots on goal for the match. 
 
Florida returns to action Sunday, Sept. 22 when it meets No. 6 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.  Match time is set for 2 p.m. (EST)
