The Gators had its first experience of the 1999 season playing from behind. Kentucky got on the board first at 16:16 when Elizabeth Ramsey hit an 18-yard shot into the open net. UF goalkeeper Regan Wiesemann was taken out of the play after a collision on a prior shot. UK's Annie Gage and Margo Hafer each were credited with an assist on the play.

UF freshman Erica "Boo" Schubert, who was just inserted into the match at 37:45 of the opening half, hit her second goal of the season at 40:19. Schubert hit the 12-yard shot from the right side off of Abby Wambach's cross. UF senior captain Sarah Yohe broke the tie with an eight-yard shot to the near post at the 42:54 mark. Both Wambach and Schubert were credited with assists on the play.

"We give Kentucky credit because they came in and played an effective style against us," UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. "But at the same time, we need to do a better job setting the tone and  being prepared, particularly at home. But hopefully this game will be one that we can build on, learn from and get better."

UF outshot the Wildcats 20-9 Friday evening. UK goalkeeper Beth Wells registered seven saves Friday, while Wiesemann turned in three.

The Gators return to action on Sunday, Sept. 12 when they play host to 1997 and '98 SEC Tournament runner-up Vanderbilt for the adidas Showdown. Kick-off is set for 2:45 p.m. UF defeated VU for its last two SEC Tournament titles.
