LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 4 University of Florida soccer team posted a 3-1 win over No. 16 UCLA Saturday afternoon at the McAlister Field in the first day of the Southern California Fila Challenge. The win ups the Gators' record to 3-0 this season, while the Bruins drop to 1-1.

"This was a good early season on-the-read test for us," UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. "I was happy with our attitude and happy with our opportunistic goals."

The first two Florida shots were goals Saturday. Senior captain Sarah Yohe put the Gators on the board in the sixth minute, hitting a short shot in front of the net off a pass from sophomore Andi Sellers. Sophomore Abby Wambach made the score 2-0 with her short shot that went in untouched off the assist from Yohe.

Wambach scored again just four minutes into the second half, one-touching the pass from Sellers and then hitting the short shot. UCLA posted its only goal in the 83rd minute, when Tracey Winzen found the back of the net off Bethany Bogart's corner kick.

The Gators edged the Bruins in shots 13-11 Saturday. Florida goalkeeper Regan Wiesemann recorded five saves for the Gators. UCLA starting goalkeeper CiCi Peterson posted one save in the opening half. Lindsay Culp replaced her in the second half, and she posted two saves.

The Gators return to action on Monday when they meet No. 24 Southern California in the final match of the USC Fila Challenge. Match time is set for 6 p.m. (ET) at McAlister Field.
