Florida Soccer Blanks Auburn 6-0 to Win SEC Title

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 17 University of Florida soccer team (12-6, 8-0 SEC) claimed sole possession of the Southeastern Conference regular-season crown Sunday with a 6-0 win over Auburn (11-7, 2-6 SEC) in front of a Percy Beard Stadium crowd of 1,265. The Gators are now 8-0 in the SEC and have one league match remaining on their schedule. "The SEC is always a priority for us. We have one more league match remaining and we would love to go undefeated in the SEC this season," UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. "We're happy to get the shut-out and that everyone got a chance to play."

Sunday was Senior Day at Gator soccer and UF's lone senior, Angie Olson, was honored in a prematch ceremony. She also scored the first goal of the match, hitting an 18-yard shot from the middle at 7:13.

"You couldn't have asked for a better situation," Burleigh said. "It is Senior Day and Angie scores the first goal. I was happy for her, as well as her teammates. We are certainly going to miss her next year."

Junior Abby Wambach scored UF's second goal at 11:23, hitting the seven-yard volley with her out-stretched foot off the cross from Andi Sellers. Sellers scored twice for the Gators Sunday. Her first goal was a penalty kick at 28:27, which was awarded to the Gators when freshman Robin Fulton was fouled in the box. Sellers also got the Gator scoring going in the second half, hitting a 12-yard shot from the middle at 61:35.

Junior Jill Stevens scored at 78:06, hitting a 15-yard bender to the upper right corner of the goal. Fulton finished off UF's scoring with an eight-yard header off the cross from Danielle Murphy.

Next up, Florida travels to the state of South Carolina for its final weekend of regular-season play. The Gators meet No. 5 Clemson on Friday, Oct. 27 and finish out their SEC slate with South Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 29.
