GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The fourth-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team (3-0) battled to a 5-2 victory over Furman (4-3) Saturday afternoon at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
 
The Gators opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins in two of the three matches. Florida freshmen Matt Behrmann and Troy Hahn began doubles play with an 8-2 victory at number three and UF juniors Jeff Morrison and Nathan Overholser followed with an 8-3 win at number one to clinch the doubles point.
 
In singles the two teams split wins in the first sets, with each team taking the opening set in three matches. Senior Dylan Mann extended the Gator lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number six singles over Jete O'Keeffe in his first action of the spring after recovering from a bicycle accident. Furman cut the lead to 2-1 with a win at number five, but Morrison increased the advantage to 3-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at number two over James Cameron for his 10^th win of the year. The Paladins rebounded again at number one singles as Lee Nickell posted a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) win over Overholser, cutting the Gator lead to 3-2. Behrmann and Hahn remained on the court at number four and three singles, respectively. Hahn fought off three match points in the second set and then rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Drew Parker to claim the first clinching victory over his career. Behrmann closed out the match with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 win over Patrick Gaughan for the final margin.
 
Florida will next be in action this Thursday, Feb. 17 when it travels to the University of South Florida for a 2:00 p.m. match at the USF Varsity Courts.
