University of Florida senior Abby Wambach (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy H.S.) makes her third appearance of the month on the Soccer America Team of the Week, the magazine announced Tuesday. This is Wambach's fourth career appearance on the Soccer America Team of the Week (the first time coming in her freshman season in 1998) and this is the fourth time a Gator has appeared on the team this month. Senior Andi Sellers was the first Gator to appear on the team on Oct. 2.
The Gators turned in two 6-0 wins last weekend vs. Mississippi State and Mississippi. Wambach scored a total of five goals and three assists during the weekend, including her eighth career hat-trick in the MSU match. This season, Wambach stands first on the team with 50 points, 20 goals and 10 assists. In the latest NCAA Division I Statistics, Wambach is first in both points per game (3.27 ppg) and goals per game (1.33 gpg). She is the Gators' career leader in points (216), goals (85) and assists (46).
Florida, which advanced to the No. 13 spot in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, plays host to No. 10 Clemson on Saturday, Nov. 3. Match time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Percy Beard Stadium and admission is free.
