Davis made 16 tackles, nine solo, with one for a loss and a forced hurry in Florida’s win over the Gamecocks. Florida held USC to just 264 yards in the game and only 57 of those through the air. On the season, the Butkus Award Semifinalist leads the Gators with both his 84 tackles and 54 solos while ranking third with nine total tackles for loss. He has made a pair of sacks on the year, part of UF’s SEC-leading 28.
It marks the fifth time in nine games this year UF has had an SEC Player of the Week and the second time on defense. DE Alex Brown won the honor following UF’s win at LSU on Oct. 6. Offensively, QB Rex Grossman has won the award twice (Marshall and Georgia games) and RB Robert Gillespie once (Kentucky game).
Davis is the central figure on a defense that is one of six schools, and the only one in the SEC, to rank in the top 15 nationally in four major categories, rushing defense, passing efficiency defense, total defense and scoring defense.
