Friday, November 2, 2001 | Men's Basketball
Fresh of three consecutive NCAA appearances and back-to-back Southeastern Conference Championships, the Florida basketball team was selected fifth in the annual preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.
The number five preseason ranking is the highest preseason ranking in school history. Florida was previously ranked eighth in the 1999-2000 preseason poll. Florida extends its school record streak of being ranked in the Coaches' Poll to 46 consecutive weeks.
Florida has been ranked higher than number five in the Coaches' Poll on just two occasions, checking in at No. 5 in the Nov. 22, 1999 poll and finishing at No. 2 in the final 1999-2000 poll the day after losing to Michigan State.
The fifth-ranked Gators face 17th-ranked Temple November 8th (6:30 p.m on ESPN2) at Madison Square Garden in the first college basketball game of the season.
