UF Track And Field Teams Win SEC Triangular

The University of Florida men's and women's track and field teams each came in first in the SEC Triangular meet held at LSU on Saturday. Florida, Ole Miss and LSU competed in the meet. The UF women's team came out on top with a score of 149, while the men's team finished first with 126 points.
The women's team had first place finishers in eight events, with four of them meeting NCAA provisional qualifying standards. Junior Erin Merten (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton River Prep) provisionally qualified in the 800 meters with her time of 2:07.37. Freshman Hilary White (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz) ran the 3,000 meters in 10:27.92, meeting the provisional standards for the event, while junior Keyon Soley (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) provisionally qualified for the long jump with her performance of 20'07.75. Freshman Candice Scott (Port of Spain, Trinidad/Barataria SNR Comp.) provisionally qualified for the shot put with a distance of 50'01.25.
On the men's side, the team had six athletes win their events. The Gators had three NCAA qualifiers, with one of them qualifying automatically. The team's best event was the 200 meters, with Gators finishing in the top three spots. Senior Geno White (Arlington, Tex./Barton CC) won the event with an automatic qualifying time of 20.50, while fellow senior Aaron Armstrong (Houston, Tex./Barton CC) met the provisional qualifying standard, running the race in 20.53. Freshman Rickey Harris (Centreville, Va./Clifton) provisionally qualified for the 110 meter high hurdles with his time of 13.85.
The women's team will be in action again March 23-24 when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Florida State Relays. Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the Florida Relays in Gainesville March 28-31.
