Georgia took advantage of Scott Murphy's 9.0-inning complete game, the second in as many days to defeat Florida 9-3 Saturday at Foley Field. With the loss, Florida drops to 25-16 overall and 9-8 in the SEC. Georgia is now 24-12 overall and 10-7 in the SEC.
Murphy (5-1) pitched 9.0 innings and allowed nine hits and three runs in facing 37 batters. He struck out seven batters.
Georgia grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI single by Doc Brooks. The Bulldogs went up 4-0 in the third when Jody Pollock and Jeff Keppinger reached on consecutive singles. Both runners advanced on a fly ball and scored on Mark Thornhill's RBI single and Adam Swann's sacrifice fly.
Florida battled back in the fourth with two runs when Aaron Davidson led off with a double followed by a Matt Goss two-run homer. But the Gators stranded three baserunners to end the inning. Pat Osborn added a solo home run in the eighth for Florida's third run.
Georgia went on to score three runs in the sixth inning when Adam Swann led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Matt Cavender followed with a single and scored on Lee Mitchell's two-run homer. The Bulldogs added their eighth run in the seventh when Mark Thornhill reached an a double and scored on a groundout double play.
Aaron Davidson extended his hit streak to a team-leading 11 games. Matt Goss and Pat Osborn collected two hits apiece.
Florida starter Jimmy Ramshaw (3-3) took the loss after throwing 5.1 innings and allowing 10 hits and seven runs (all earned). He struck out four batters.
The final game of the three-game set is tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Foley Field.
