Three divers from the University of Florida men's and women's diving teams are competing at the Geographic Zone Diving Championships in Zone B in Orlando, Fla., April 6-8.
Sophomore Sarah Close (Clearwater, Fla./ Dunedin H.S.) and freshman Nicole Bolt (Orlando, Fla./ Dr. Phillips H.S.) both qualified for the National Indoor Diving Championships in both the one and three-meter springboard events. Bolt finished third on the one and three-meter springboard for her first trip to the indoor championships. She has qualified for the outdoor championships before. Close finished fourth on the three-meter and fifth on the one-meter to qualify for her first trip to the National Championships.
On the men's side junior Reggie Coote (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Western H.S.) finished eighth on the one meter and ninth on the three-meter.
Close will be the only Florida diver competing the final day at the Geographic Zone Diving Championships. She will compete on the platform and will qualify for the Nationals on the platform as well. The top five finishers advance to the U.S. National Indoor Diving Championships in Midland, Texas, April 17-22. Only six competitors are entered in the event and one is diving as an exhibitionist and her finish will not count leaving five divers competing for the top five spots.
