Gators Continue Action at USA Track Championships

After the second day of the USATF Championships, several Florida Gators are still in contention for titles. Several others have completed their competitions while some will not advance to their final events. The USATF championships serve as the qualifying meet for Team USA for the IAAF World Championships to be held in August in Edmonton, Alberta. The top three finishers in each event who have met the IAAF qualifying standards will represent the United States at the Championships.
Geno White (Arlington, Texas/Wolfson HS) will advance to the final of the 400m dash after finishing fourth in his semifinal heat with a time of 45.79. Freshman Rickey Harris (Centreville, Va./Centreville HS) will not advance after finishing sixth in his heat with a time of 45.91. Former Gator Torrance Zellner was fifth in his semifinal heat of the 400m hurdles with a time of 50.07 and will not advance to the final of the intermediate hurdles.
Gators were involved in two final events on Day 2. Nine-time All-American David Furman was the seventh place finisher in the high jump while long jumper Maurice Lewis (Jacksonville/Raines HS) was 17th in his event.
Olympian and former national champion for the Gators, Hazel Clark, will advance in the 800m as the top qualifier. She had a time of 2:03.16. Another former Gator, Tamieka Grizzle, will advance after being eighth overall with a time of 2:06.82. Jearl Miles-Clark, the wife of Gator assistant coach J.J. Clark, was fourth in her heat of the 400m with a time of 51.75.
In a final event for the women, school-record holder Jukina Dickerson (Jacksonville/Ribault HS) was the 14th place finisher in the hammer throw.
